In 2001 I was overweight, de-conditioned, unhealthy and a shadow of my youth, having trained in Judo from the age of 10 into my early twenties and had trials as a youth with Crystal Palace Football Club, I was disappointed in how I had let myself go. I decided to turn my life around and in 2002 headed back to university and studied and completed a Higher National Diploma in Sports Science.

Fast forward to the present day…… Kettlebell training was introduced to me in 2008, I was addicted straight away (They are an addictive and effective tool) so my journey with the cannonball with a handle began. Over the years I have been fortunate enough to have trained with and worked alongside some of the best health and fitness experts in the industry, life is a continuous roller coaster of knowledge. Everyday I learn something new that I can apply in my own life or training or simply pass on to others.

I currently personal train clients on a 1 to 1 basis or small groups in and around Perth, I run one of the most established Fitness Training Camps on Perth, Scotland’s North Inch Park (Whatever the weather) and also run weekly Kettlebell group training sessions. All my programmes are fully supported by up to date nutritional advice to enhance overall results.

I came to Kettlebells after meeting with a newly certified KB trainer (Rannoch Donald) at a Krav Maga seminar.  We both spent the weekend working hard and throwing each other around the room, but at the end of that weekend I couldn’t help noticing that the KB trainer wasn’t breathing anywhere near as hard as everybody else and there was a poise and balance to his movements that caught my attention.  So I spoke to him about it and went along to learn the basics.  I’ve had problems with my joints and my back for years, and suddenly here was a way to get fit, to stay fit and to build lasting strength and mobility.  I was hooked.

I’ve been training with Kettlebells for three years now, having originally learned the RKC approach.  I completed the CKT level 1 certification in March 2010.  With an interest in holistic health and fitness, I take a practical approach to my training, focussing on fitting consistent, regular workouts around a very busy schedule.  The IKFF system is outstanding for this.

I’m not currently offering training, but am putting together a programme and approach to do so, so please feel free to contact me if you’re interested in learning more.

“Kettlebell training had me ‘gripped’ from the word go! The diverse and ballistic method adopted by this form training helps develop acceleration and deceleration important not only in the athlete but also general population groups. After researching many other forms of kettlebell training the IKFF way has the full range of your body’s capabilities in mind! The ballistic training methods helps create elastic potential within the body due to the nature of the tissues in muscles, which in turn can help you to become increasingly robust in both everyday and athletic activities. I challenge everyone to develop their fitness and athletic goals with this warrior inspired training!

IKFF Level 1 Certified Kettlebell Teacher

Guy is the owner of Glasgow Sport and Spine Clinic where he treats sports injuries and chronic musculoskeletal pain. He has studied in the UK, Ireland, America and most recently in the Czech Republic at the Prague School of manual medicine. His interest in the rehabilitation of incorrect movement and muscle activation patterns which are frequently the cause of injury initially led him to kettlebell training.

“Kettlebell training provides a practical option for most people to train consistently and maintain fitness, core strength and flexibility. They are cost effective space saving, reasonably portable and most importantly for many a workout is not too time consuming. Used correctly kettlebells help train functional fitness and movement patterns, encouraging the whole kinetic chain to engage correctly. ”I believe they are a superb adjunct to amateur and professional athletes non-specific sports training and I have used them with a variety of athletes from boxers to rugby players and martial artists”
